Everything you need to know about Tea Chest

Unlike centralized services like Google Drive or Dropbox, Tea Chest is built on decentralized technologies. Your files are encrypted before leaving your device and stored across the IPFS network, not on our servers. This means no single entity controls your data, and we can't access your files even if we wanted to.

Your encryption key is generated and stored only on your devices. If you lose all copies of your key, there is no way to recover your encrypted files. This is by design to ensure complete privacy. We strongly recommend backing up your key in a secure location. Tea Chest provides tools to safely export and backup your key.

When you share a file with collaborators, Tea Chest uses end-to-end encrypted peer-to-peer connections (WebRTC) to sync changes in real-time. All changes are encrypted with the file's key before being transmitted. The actual content never touches our servers. We use Conflict-Free Replicated Data Types (CRDTs) to ensure all collaborators see the same state of the document, even if they're offline temporarily.

Tea Chest uses the Tea Protocol to incentivize nodes to pin your files for long-term availability. When you upload a file, you pay a small amount in TEA tokens that gets distributed to nodes that store your data. The more important a file is (based on access patterns and your preferences), the more nodes will be incentivized to keep it available. You can also choose to pay for additional redundancy.
